Sacramento River Cats Game (Hosted by The Nooners Toastmasters)

Marvyn Drake DTM PDG has passed away…

Marvyn Leroy Drake was born in Lucas County, Iowa on September 18, 1932 and died at the age of 86 on October 3, 2018 in Sacramento, California. Marvyn enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. During his 28-year career in the Air Force as a Weather Observer and then a Forecaster, he was assigned to several bases across the country from Maine to California. He also spent time in Alaska & Hawai’i. He had overseas assignments to Vietnam, Korea, Japan, the Philippines and England. After retiring from the Air Force, Marvyn found employment with SMUD, where he worked for 17 years, until his retirement in 1996. Marvyn joined Toastmasters International, District 39, the Hi-Liners Club, which held their weekly meetings in the SMUD building where he worked, in 1981. He was an active member of Toastmasters for 30 years. Two other clubs Marvyn was a member of were Tic-Toc (Toastmasters in the community-Toastmasters on cable) and the Diamond Club. Marvyn is survived by his wife Jill, his sister, Barbara Hand (Burlington, Iowa), his brother, Mike Drake and his wife, Tillie (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) and several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s association at alz.org.
